Ian Poulter shoots six birdies in the second round of the Ballantine's Championship
Ian Poulter, the world No. 25, is back to chasing the title of the Ballantine's Championship, as he scored a 5-under 67 in the second round.
The 36-year-old English professional golfer delivered his best on Friday, at the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon in Seoul, South Korea.
He teed off the tournament on Thursday and was surrounded by many hurdles. He did not perform well in the first round, due to the unfavorable weather conditions.
However, he impressed all his fans in the second round, by hitting amazing strokes and birdies.
Poulter finished a 3-over 75 in the first round, shooting only three birdies and six bogeys that dragged his position down.
Then on Friday, he improved his performance and fired three massive birdies on the front nine holes of the course.
He only carded one bogey on the 4th hole throughout the day. On the back nine, he added another two birdies on the 12th and 15th hole and impressively finished the round by hitting another birdie on the 18th.
"Yeah, yesterday was frustrating," Poulter admitted. "I generally played pretty solid golf, I like it windy which is exactly what we got yesterday and I never took advantage at all".
"I hit a couple of poor shots and three three-putts put me three-over for the day. But this morning, flat calm, the sun's out and it was definitely scoreable out there today. I gave myself plenty of looks at birdie and managed to take a few".
He was very happy after making a successful round. He boosted his leaderboard position, and now is hoping to improve further, so that he can be among the top-5 leading players.
He added, "It's about going out there and making as many birdies as I can, and this golf course gives it up on the par fives. Certainly you have to take advantage of those".
After the second round, Bernd Wiesberger is leading the scores. He made seven tremendous birdies, played a bogey-free round, and is now leading by eight strokes against Poulter.
Two rounds have finished. There are plenty of chances for Poulter to climb to the top. Analysts said that he only needs to hit more birdies and play a more comfortable game from Saturday.
