Ian Poulter takes a jab on his critic Nick Faldo after a strong finish in the Masters
Ian Poulter, another of the strong English players at the Masters, took a jab at his critics who have been thrashing him for his nonchalant attitude towards the sport.
Poulter clad in his usual chequered trousers, pulled in a strong finish at the 76th Masters here at Augusta National, answering the claims of many critics who have been touting him as one of the non-serious English players.
Poulter said, "Funnily enough, people have made all these comments that I don't practice hard enough, but the fact is for the last month or so I haven't been able to practice anywhere near as much as I would have usually because I've been ill”.
Poulter’s outburst at the critics was primarily aimed at the former giant of the sport Nick Faldo who came out openly criticising Poulter for his knack for the Twitter and the various distractions in his life including his apparel designing firm.
Poulter designs outfits along with his wife and is running a lucrative business right next to his passion for the sport.
He added, "And what happens? I finish third at Bay hill and top 10 in the Masters. So hey ho – what do they know?"
Poulter pulled in a strong outright seventh at the Masters last week, carding a solid three-under, 69 on the final day.
Opening up the event with an even-par, 72, Poulter gradually build up momentum, pulling in rounds of even-par, 72 and two-under, 70 in the second and third rounds respectively.
He finally carded the best round over the weekend on the final day, shooting an impressive three-under, 69 to finish in top-ten on the leaderboard.
His final round included four birdies and a bogey at par-four, 18th.
Poulter was among the only three Englishmen in the event who finished in the top-ten. Lee Westwood led the English charge from day one and finished for his second highest finish in the event with a joint third.
Justin Rose was another Englishman who surged to the top of the leaderboard finishing for a strong joint eighth.
Poulter has made eight appearances in the star-studded event and this marks his highest finish in the Masters in his career.
His highest finish in any major event came in the year 2008 where he finished runner up in the Open Championship.
