Ian Poulter to play in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship
The English player, Ian Poulter, will return to play the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship in January. The talented player who was extremely close to winning last year can’t wait to play the event a year later.
Poulter has had a decent year and is very eager to start 2011 on a good note. The player hopes to win the Championship that will take place from January 20thtill January 23rd. Part of the European Tour, will take place at the Abu Dhabi
Golf Club in Abu Dhabi.
At this year’s HSBC Golf Championship, Ian was in close contention with the eventual Dubai winner, Martin Kaymer. Playing well throughout the tournament, Poulter had landed himself in a play off with Kaymer. Eventually, Kaymer did win the Falcon Trophy and
will be there to defend his title next year.
Even though Ian didn’t win that tournament, it was a decent week for Ian. His second place finished at the HSBC Championship hoisted Ian Poulter to the top ten of the world golf rankings. Currently, Poulter is ranked eleventh in the world.
This year Ian won the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship that took place in Arizona. Poulter won the championship 4 and 2 defeating Paul Casey who came in second place. With this being Ian’s first victory in America, it really boosted his confidence.
Poulter also won the UBS Hong Kong Open by one stroke over Matteo Manassero and Simon Dyson.
Poulter was victorious again in America when he recently won the Shark Shootout in Florida. Paired with Dustin Johnson, he defeated Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell in the scramble format. Even though it’s not an official tournament, the shoot out hosted
by Greg Norman featured top class players in the field.
Recently Ian also made news when he criticized the BBC for their choice of BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. The award went to the jockey AP McCoy instead of Graeme McDowell who was a strong candidate for the accolade. Poulter called it farce and
posted his criticism on his twitter for the whole world to see.
Despite his blunt attitude, Ian is a very talented player and is excited to tee off in UAE next year.
