Ian Thorpe finishes 10th in 200-meter freestyle race
Ian Thorpe stood 10th in the 200m free style race that took place today. It was the first race after the star swimmer’s retirement and the result brought to light what a long hard road he has ahead if the swimmer wants to actualise his dreams of winning
gold at the Olympic Games.
The race in which Thorpe took part was the first ever swim in almost six years. The race was part of the Italian Water Open meet that was held in Riccione, Australia.
After the race, the swimmer is now ranked as the 10th overall. However, Thorpe’s position in the 200m free style was third. The position was secured in the time of a total of 1 minute and 51.51 seconds. The swimmer that was able to beat Thorpe to the first
position was Sebastian Verschuren. The time of the winning Dutchman was 1mintue and 48.20 seconds.
Previously when Thorpe competed in the 100m free style without securing any position, the swimmer expressed himself in the following words, “I did about everything wrong tonight, it's really tough against these guys. As I experienced during the World Cup,
it's hard to get in the rythm of the race, but the training is good. I hope to get faster.”
The time that Thorpe has been able to pull off in his most recent race is far below the par that the star swimmer set when he was at his best. Thorpe was a bit more than seven seconds late than his best run in a 200m free style competition.
The next step that the star swimmer is going to take in order to actualize his dream of winning a gold at the Olympics is to go to a training camp in Australia. The camp will also help Thorpe to prepare for the Victorian championships that will be taking
place in Melbourne, Australia. The championships will be taking place in the month of January next year and Thorpe will be hoping to reach the qualifications of the Olympics.
The Olympic Games will be held in London for the third time in the city’s history next year.
