Ian Thorpe is not bothered about his current swimming form – Swimming News
Five-time Olympic champion, Ian James Thorpe, has said that he is absolutely not bothered about his swimming form at the moment. The legendary swimmer is currently under a training program with legendary Russian coach, Gennadi Touretski, in Switzerland.
The Australian has been training really hard with a lot of dedication with his coach, who has also trained great sprinters like Alexander Popov. Thorpe deems that he can vie in both the 100m and 200m freestyles in the Olympic Games in London.
Thorpe said, “I’m satisfied. I'm content where I'm at but I have a lot to do. Satisfied doesn't mean I'm there, by no means, I'm not at all. But I'm happy with where I'm at. The five-time Olympic gold medallist added of his recent physical transformation:
I'm starting to look like a swimmer again.”
He has just completed an arduous block of high altitude training under the guidance and instruction of his mentor, Gennadi Touretski.
After the ten-day high altitude training, Thorpe said that it was a valuable experience for him, because it really tested his abilities and was a substantial work-out.
The legendary Aussie swimmer added, “I honestly don't think I'd have enough time to do anything for the 400m. Already with what I'm doing in the timeframe that I have, it's a tough ask.”
Thorpe has represented his country twice in the Olympics. He first featured in the 2000 Olympics Games and clinched three gold medals in the Men’s 400m, 4x100m and 4x200m freestyles in Sydney. In the 2004 Olympic Games, he notched two golden crowns in the
Men’s 200m and 400m freestyle finals, in Athens.
Recently, many people were concerned about Thorpe’s come-back and his fitness for the upcoming Olympic Games in London.
Ian Thorpe also disclosed that he might compete in the 200m freestyle event at the upcoming Olympics. Thorpe’s comeback for the 200m freestyle has raised attentions of another legendary swimmer, Michael Fred Phelps.
It is expected that both the illustrious swimmers will be in-front of each other in London for the 200m freestyles, which is sure to be a great contest.
