Ian Thorpe says too early to judge his London Games 2012 preparation
Ian Thorpe, the swimming star has recently made a statement in which he has said that now is not the right time to judge where he stands relative to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Thorpe came out of retirement after 6 years and turned back to professional swimming in hopes of participating in the Olympic Games and securing a gold medal. Thorpe had already earned himself a lot of success when he was engaged in professional swimming
before his retirement. He is the proud holder of five Olympic medals as Thorpe is a five time Olympic champion.
Thorpe expressed himself upon the issue in the following manner, “I'm in training at the moment, I came here to take the opportunity to race, and to race against fast swimmers. I don't look at where I come in the race. I look at the time, how fast it is.
I watch it, I critique my race after it but I have no control of what the others are doing. It's not a concern now, maybe later, but now it's too premature.”
Thorpe confronted the media after he took part in the 100-metre freestyle as well as the 200-metre freestyle race recently. In the first event, Thorpe could finish 16th overall while in the 200-metre event, the 29-year-old swimmer ended up with the 10th position
overall. Both the races were part of the Italian Winter Championships that took place over the weekend.
Next in line for the professional swimmer who has just come out of retirement is training back home in Australia. He will be preparing himself well and hard in order to come up to the mark of the qualifications for the Olympic Games next year.
The Olympic Games will be hosted in the city of London for the third time in the city’s history. After having staged the event successfully, London will become the first ever city in the world to have hosted the prestigious international sporting event for
a total of three times. The first time that the Olympic Games came to London was in 1908 while the second time it was in 1948.
