Ian Thorpe to strive for a place in London Olympics
Ian Thorpe has recently made the announcement that he will take part in the upcoming 2012 London Olympics. The famous swimmer is planning to make a show of his skills after a five-year long retirement period. After this extended time interval and being out
of professional swimming, the Olympics will be Thorpe’s first major event.
The Australian swimmer has no doubts about the difficulty of the task as he admitted at the press conference that it is very likely that he will fail to secure the gold medal in the Olympic Games.
Thorpe is Australia’s most celebrated Olympics athlete as he has been able to earn the most success in the Olympic Games while representing his country.
Thorpe expressed himself at the press conference in the following manner: "It still is the most likely outcome and frankly I don't care. I like what I am doing, I like the training that I am doing and I love that I have this opportunity, I am very grateful
for that. I came to terms with failure when I started this. I literally looked at it and went 'you know what, chances are you are probably going to fail at this' and I was comfortable with that fact. If you can be comfortable with that you can actually accomplish
anything and you kind of set yourself free to just get on with it."
Thorpe was able to make his mark in the world of swimming by winning a total of five medals at the Olympics. Thorpe was able to get his hands on three silver medals along with a bronze one at the 2000 Olympic Games. Not only that, he also got to win the
bronze at the 2004 Olympics. Thorpe’s urge to make a show of skills again at the Olympic Games has partly to do with the fact that he has not been able to get a gold at the prestigious sporting event as yet.
Other than that, Thorpe was been able to win other titles in his career as well. These include a total of 11 world championship titles.
