Ian Thorpe will not be swimming at London 2012 Olympic Games
Ian Thorpe has not been able to qualify for the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games as he recently made a failed attempt to make it to the semi finals of the 100m freestyle event.
Thorpe had also made an attempt to qualify for the Olympic Games when he took part in the 200m free style event on the Friday gone by.
However, Thorpe could not make it to that time as well as he was knocked out in the semi final round of the event. The last chance that Thorpe had at the London 2012 Olympic Games which are to start from July 27 saw the swimmer win his heat but his time
placed him at the 21st best. Thorpe was able to complete the 100m free style event in a time of 50.35 seconds.
Thorpe expressed himself by making the following comments on the matter of his non qualification from the London 2012 Olympic Games, “I hadn't thought about it very much ... But I think now i'll probably take a few days off and enjoy the competition and
then sit down with a few people, [Australian head coach] Leigh Nugent and my coach Gennadi [Touretski] and work out what is next, work out what the next preparation will be and what competition will be next. I'm still swimming. When I started this I wanted
to get back in the pool, I wanted to race and I wanted to go to the Olympics. I still want to do all of those things.”
Despite the fact that Thorpe will no longer be taking part in the London 2012 Olympic Games, he still intends to compete at the World Championships that are set to take place next year in Barcelona. Not only that, Thorpe also plans to make an appearance
in the 2014 Commonwealth Games which are to take place in Glasgow.
Thorpe, the 39-year-old Australian, has been able to earn himself the Olympic gold medal for a total of five times in his career. The swimmer is still optimistic and has not ruled out the possibility of trying to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
