Ian Williams’ Team GAC Pindar snatches overall lead at 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 8
Skipper Team GAC Pindar A, Ian Williams, staged a superb comeback as they snatched the overall leaderboard position from Ben Ainslie’s Oman Air at the conclusion of Day 3 of 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 8. The British team sailed impressively during the
scheduled races of the day to hit top spot with 98 points at the port of Almeria.
Five races commenced on the third day, of which two were in open water and three in the Stadium mode inside the port of Almeria, under reasonable wind conditions. The previous leaderboard, Ben Ainslie’s Oman Air showed a good performance in the first three
races but could not impress in the next two and slipped down to allow Team GAC Pindar take the top spot on the podium.
Switzerland’s Alinghi were on fourth position at the end of second day and now they have managed to step two spots up at second berth by 95 points, followed by Oman Sail’s The Wave Muscat skippered by Leigh McMillan on third podium position with 93 points.
The overall standings at the conclusion of Day 3 at the port of Almeria:
