Ian Williams and Anna Tunnicliffe hit top spots in ISAF Match Racing Rankings – Sailing news
International Sailing Federation (ISAF) has released World Match Racing Rankings after the completion of the 2011 Sailing Season. According to the new rankings, Great Britain’s Ian Williams has topped the Open Rankings after compiling 11880 points in the
recently finished season.
The Briton tumbled down from the number one spot after showing a below-par performance at the Argo Cup in Hamilton, Bermuda. The British sailor finished seventh in the event and lost his top spot in the rankings revised in October, 2011.
However, Williams sprang back into the season with an impressive performance in the 2011 Monsoon Cup in Malaysia and grabbed back his top position. He ousted Johnie Berntsson of Sweden 3-1 on the final day of the regatta to lift the cup. With this victory
in Monsoon Cup, Williams also clinched the overall title of World Match Racing Tour for the third time in his career.
On the other hand, America’s Anna Tunnicliffe, along with her crew members Deborah Capozzi and Molly O'bryan Vandemoer, managed to hit the first rank in the Women’s Match Racing rankings with impressive performances last season. She secured the first podium
place after earning 11659 points, sailing in eight events of 2011.
The American woman sailor showed stunning form during the 2011 season and finished with Women’s Match Racing gold at the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships. She defeated Lucy Macgregor 4-0 in the final and took her twelfth Match Racing win and sixth
gold medal of the year 2011. After facing a defeat at the hands of Tunnicliffe, Macgregor secured the second spot.
