Ian Williams and Claire Leroy lead overall International Sailing Federation’s Match Race Rankings
Great Britain’s Ian Williams and Claire Leroy from France have reached the top of overall Open and Women Match Race rankings respectively. Williams earned 11655 points in a total of eight events throughout the year, while Leroy grabbed 11249 points after
eight racing events.
In the Open Match Race Rankings, Williams is followed by the Italian sailor, Francesco Bruni, who is just a single point behind the Englishman. Another Briton, Ben Ainslie, secured the third spot overall in the rankings with 11315 points this year. Williams
hit the first spot for the first time in June 2008 but tumbled down later in the year. However, the sailor worked hard and rightfully earned the top spot again.
Meanwhile, France’s Leroy grabbed the Women Match Racing top spot after she clinched Stena Match Cup Sweden Women’s Trophy. The French sailor earned 11249 points to jump at number one place from number six. Anna Tunnicliffe from United States of America
is placed on second spot with 11096 points in the overall rankings.
