Ian Woosnam going for the British Par 3 Championship
Ian Woosnam is in quite a good form. He just had a top ten finish in the Senior Open at Turnberry. Now, there is a new challenge heading his way.
Next week he will be competing in the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship. The event is going to start from the 7th of August and is going to end on the 10th of August.
Ian Woosnam has bagged one major tournament and it was in the year 1991 when he won the Masters Tournament. He has managed 48 professional wins in his career.
Out of these 48 wins, 2 came from the PGA Tour, 29 from the European Tour and 4 from the European Senior Tour. This year he will be looking to bag one more title.
The Managing Director of the Championship, Matthew Hayes is very delighted to have Woosnam on board for the tournament.
In an interview he said, “Ian Woosnam playing at this year's event reflects the ongoing ambition of the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship to be one of the biggest events on the golfing calendar. We are looking forward to four days of action packed and
entertaining golf”.
The 54-year-old will be a part of the field including many great players, such as Tony Jacklin and Brian Barnes. They will be looking to make a competitive comeback.
The Ryder Cup stars Tommy Horton, Des Smyth and Paul Broadhurst, Carl Mason and Sky pundit and Tour star Tony Johnstone will also be featuring in this tournament.
Paul Wesselingh and Gary Wolstenholme who famously defeated Tiger Woods in the 1995 Walker Cup will also be seen in action in the tournament.
“He's been the driving force for it all. For us to play a Par 3 tournament like this, and all it entails including playing some celebrities and raising money for charity, is superb,” said Wolstenholme.
“You don't get too many opportunities on a normal round of golf as there's only about four, where here you have one every hole,” he added.
Wolstenholme also said that he has not seen any hole in ones in this tournament. He is hopeful that he might get a chance to get one here. He has had 15 hole in ones till now and he still thinks he can squeeze in a few more.
