Ian Woosnam heads for the ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship with fine form – Golf News
Former Masters champion Ian Woosnam has set his sights on recording a strong finish this week at the ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship, slated to start from  June 6, 2013.
The tournament will be staged at the De Vere Mottram Hall in Cheshire, featuring some of the best players from the European Senior Tour.
Last week, he participated in the Principal Charity Classic and carded a seven-under par tournament score, which allowed him to finish tied seventh on the leaderboard.
According to him, he is in fine fettle ahead of the regular start of the 2013 European Senior Tour season – the US Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid was jointly sanctioned by the Champions Tour and the European Senior
Tour.
His fellow Ryder Cup captains Mark James and Sam Torrance have also showed their commitment to participate in this year’s edition of the event.
Torrance holds a stunning track record in the PGA Seniors Championship, winning the 2005 and 2006 editions of the event, added with tied third finish in 2008. That is the reason why he is currently lauded as one of the hot favourites
to record a victory in the event.
Paul Wesselingh, who finished fifth in the European Senior Tour Order of Merit last year and was named as the Rookie of the year, courtesy to his outstanding performances throughout the 2012 season, is also back to defend his title
that he won last year.
Carl Mason is another strong addition to the field this year, as he also holds a scintillating record at the ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship – he won the 2004, 2007 and 2009 editions of the event.
In addition to the some of the experienced European Senior Tour players, some new faces will also be seen on the course this week. Spaniard Santiago Luna and England’s Paul Way and Mike McLean will be making their European Senior
Tour debuts in Mottram St Andrew.
The PGA Seniors Championship is the longest running event on the European Senior Tour, having started in 1957, and the De Vere Mottram Hall will host the event for the first time.
