Ian Wright backs http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 De Gea to come good at Manchester United – English Premier League
Ian Wright, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 striker and a legend for Arsenal F.C has come out and backed David De Gea to come good at Manchester United. Wright was seen as an eccentric character back in the day but he was known for his goal
scoring prowess. The Englishman was at the heart of Arsenal’s strength in the early 90s and even in the mid 90s before Arsene Wenger came in and Wright departed from the club. Ian held the goal scoring record for Arsenal which was broken by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thierry-Henry-c34918 eventually.
The English striker has been involved with the English media ever since his retirement from football altogether and his recent remarks suggest that he is a huge fan of Manchester United’s new Spanish goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-de-Gea-c10463.
De Gea sealed an 18 million pound switch from Atletico Madrid to Manchester United in the summer transfer window as Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson brought in the youthful shot stopper to replace the retired Edwin Van der Sar. De Gea who has
big shoes to fill after Van der Sar’s retirement has had a shaky start to his Manchester United career already as he made a mistake in his first Premier league match for Manchester United when he allowed Shane Long’s effort to creep past him for West Brom’s
equalizer.
Luckily, David was eventually bailed out thanks to an own goal on the other end of the field but his doubters are out in full force already. At just 20 years of age, the Spanish youngster has a big task ahead of him if he wants
to become United’s first choice goalkeeper but he has Sir Alex Ferguson’s backing. Wright explained, "He is only 20 and has gone straight into the team after arriving at the club for a lot of money. Yet any mistakes he makes are always going to be highlighted,
because he is at arguably the biggest club in the world. The spotlight will always be on him.”
He added, "When you have had great keepers like Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar, it is always going to be difficult to follow in their footsteps. From what I have seen of De Gea, as long as he can keep going and limit his
mistakes - because all goalies make mistakes - he will be fine. I think that he will go on to be one of the great goalkeepers at Manchester United, without a doubt." Manchester United play their next Premier League encounter at Old Trafford against Tottenham
Hotspur on 22nd of August, 2011.
