Ian Wright wants Shaun Wright-Phillips to leave Manchester City
Shaun Wright-Phillips' famous father, Ian Wright, feels that his son needs to leave Manchester City.The former Arsenal striker has insisted his son needs to find regular football elsewhere;
otherwise he will risk spending some of his peak years warming the Manchester City bench, along with losing his place in Fabio Capello’s future plans.
Wright told
The Sun, “I'd love him to get out of there on loan at least. We're talking about someone who is still in the England squad, so Fabio Capello obviously rates him. But when you're not playing regularly, it's only a matter of time before he stops getting
picked.”
Wright went on to say that his son is becoming increasingly frustrated and downbeat after so much time spent on the bench at Eastlands. “Shaun's finding it very hard to keep his spirits
up. I can just see him getting further and further down the pecking order. I want him to go somewhere he'll get a fair crack at the first team.”
Wright-Phillips has had a frustrating career since leaving Manchester City for Chelsea back in 2005. His big-money move was supposed to take him to the next level and establish himself
as one of the league’s most exciting talents.
Instead, he never really settled at Stamford Bridge, and after finding himself in and out of the team for regular spells, he was rescued by City. The Citizens were just starting to splash
huge sums of money under their new regime and Wright-Phillips, along with others, signalled the start of a revolution.
Unfortunately, he has since become a victim of the on-going revolution at the club, as numerous big-money stars have been bought in, pushing the England winger further and further down
the pecking order. He now desperately needs a move out of the club, and there’ll be no shortage of takers as long as City doesn’t expect to recoup much of what they paid for him.
