Ibanez and Howard secure victory for Phillies over Braves (Part 1)
The Philadelphia Phillies are on quite a roll these days. They just bagged a series victory over the Florida Marlins and the fact that they secured the top position in the MLB Power Rankings for the third week straight must have boosted their confidence.
Today they faced the Atlanta Braves in a three game set at the Turner Field in Atlanta in front of an audience of over thirty-six thousand fans, which filled up almost seventy-two percent of the venue. Things didn’t work out for the Braves like expected
and the Phillies defeated them 5-4 in a well trailed match.
David Rackley was the umpire at the home plate and Bruce Dreckman, Paul Emmel and Gary Darling were umpiring at first base, the second base, and, the third base, respectively.
The Braves and the Phillies both had their best pitchers come out in the highly anticipated match. Cole Hamels of Philadelphia went up against Brandon Beachy of the Braves. This marked Hamels second consecutive start against the Braves.
Previously Hamels went on for seven innings against the Braves where he allowed three runs out of five hits along with nine strikeouts and a single walk. Since the season began, this marked Hamels third start against Atlanta.
The Braves have struggled to bat more than a mere .188 against him with only nine hits in the duration of forty-eight at bats. They managed three hits for extra bases and two home runs. Alex Gonzalez and Freddie Freeman belted out those home runs and the
pair accounts for five hits each against Hamels.
As for Brandon Beachy, he pitched excellently against the Milwaukee Brewers, where he delivered six shutout innings, in which he allowed only four hits along with nine strikeouts and a walk.
In his previous start against the Phillies Beachy was at the losing end, as he gave up four runs on seven hits with only two strikeouts in the duration of more than six innings. The Phil’s are batting a successful .300 against Beachy, which is much better
when compared to what the Braves are batting against Hamels. They have had six hits in twenty at bats and four of those hits were for extra bases.
The Phillies kicked things off as Ryan Howard belted out a colossal home run that flew a distance of four hundred and seventy feet against Beachy. The homer put three runs for the Phil’s on the scoreboard.
This was something to be happy about for the Philly fans but the Braves, not so much. Beach continued to pitch for two more innings but after that he left the game due to an oblique strain.
