Question:

Ibiza or Seville?

I'm going to Spain this summer for 5 weeks (May 26 - June 30) to finish my minor in Spanish. We will spend the first week in Madrid and Toledo and then Week 2 through 5 in Valencia. We only have class Monday to Thursday with the weekends being our choice of what to do (travel, go to the beach, relax, etc). The program will offer option excursions and I was trying to decide which would be better and why?

They've scheduled Ibiza and Seville on the same weekend so I'm forced to make a choice as to which place I want to go or if I should go to neither and save my money. It's going to cost 275 euros for both trips for June 12th - 15th.

Thanks for your input/Spain expertise.

  1. That is really expensive!  You would be better off making your own arrangements.   Check out bus/train/ferry timetables and book into a hostel.  I would think for a weekend in Seville, including travel, accomodation and spending 200 euros.  I'm pretty sure the Valencia-Ibiza ferry is around 100 euros return and Ibiza is expensive.

  2. Ibiza if u want to Party and relax for a few days..

Or Seville if u enjoy the history and culture of spain. Both Places are great.. I would pick Sevilla... ( Seville)

    Take care,,

  3. Seville is a old world traditional Spanish city with many small bars  and cafe. Very scenic.

Ibiza is a relatively small island (about 25 miles square) that encompasses many different things from great beaches, loud nightlife (some of the biggest and best clubs and dj's) in the 2 major towns of San antiono and Ibiza town. There's also some great laid back villages and towns in the North of the island where expensive mansions (usually belonging to celebrities) can be found. There's also a large hippie community still there from the 70's that provide inpromtue beach parties in secluded coves.

  4. Well... both are very interesting, and it depends on your intentions, but Ibiza is far more expensive.

Seville is the fourth largest city of Spain (700,000 inhabitants aproximately), and it has all the clichés that have made Spain famous: sun, gardens, muslim, christian and colonial architecture, tapas, cuisine, flamenco, sevillanas, friendly people, cool accent, lively lifestyle, street hubbub, horsecars, orange and lemon trees, beautiful festivities... it's a lovely city, and one of the most romantic ones.

The Ibiza Island is the Hippy and Club Culture Capital. It's full of really beautiful beaches (a lot of them for nudist) and probably the best and the largest discoteques of the world. There are a lot of after-hours and parties at the beach. The nature is simply beautiful, and the towns are very nice. Ibiza city is very beautiful. You can also go by ferry to the closer island of Formentera, also marvellous.

  5. If you are going for the minor/academic travel...go to Sevilla.  it is, without a doubt, the better choice from an academic view...it is the heart of Andalucía, and quite likely the prettiest city you'll see.

If you want to do the beach/relaxing thing, Ibiza is a great place for it.

Partying is heavy in both cities, though Ibiza really has a reputation.  Never was my style for travel, and I lived in Sevilla, so I'm a bit prejudiced...any chance to go back, and I'm there!  But, unless you really want that jet-set, heavy duty partying atmosphere that is Ibiza, go to Sevilla,  you won't regret it.

  6. go to seville, i went there and loved it, you can't miss it
