The 26-year-old, who recently joined Schalke on a season-long loan deal, was struggling to feature regularly for the Catalan giants, and he has now been struggling to cement his place in Die Knappen starting line-up since arriving at Veltins-Arena earlier
this summer.
However, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven star has expressed confidence in his abilities, and has insisted that he will continue trying his level best to become a regular.
“I'm feeling very well and I'm slowly gaining match rhythm. It's hard to remain patient. I really love the game and I'm raring to go. I know that I can add something to the team. I understand the coach's point of view, though. I have to prove my worth whenever
I get playing time”, Afellay was quoted as saying to De Telegraaf.
The talented midfielder, who has represented the Flying Dutchmen in 41 matches since making his debut in March 2007, went on to insist that he wants to cement his place in the Oranje playing XI as well.
“It's the same with the national team. Of course, there's a lot of competition, but that's only normal when you're surrounded by the best players Netherlands have”, Afellay concluded.
The 26-year-old was a regular starter in the Flying Dutchmen’s line-up in recent times under the leadership of Bert van Marwijk.
However, since Louis van Gaal has taken the reins of the Oranje, the versatile midfielder has failed to represent his national team.
Nonetheless, Afellay has now been called up by the former Bayern Munich boss for Netherlands’ upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romania-c2990 on October 12 and October 16 respectively.
The Dutch international would be keen to impress his new coach with his performances, and cement his place in the Oranje squad.
