Ibrahim Afellay insists he will stay at PSV Eindhoven until end of season
Highly rated attacker Ibrahim Afellay has revealed that he is likely to stay with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven until the end of the 2010-11 season.
Holland international Afellay is in the last year of his contract at PSV, for whom he has played for his entire career.
Lately, PSV has suffered from some financial difficulties, and it was suggested that they would sell Afellay in January as to avoid seeing him leave on a free transfer next summer.
Arsene Wenger, manager of English Premier League side Arsenal, has long been interested in the 24-year-old. It is widely thought that Wenger has been weighing up a move for the player when the transfer window again opens for business in January.
Unfortunately for Wenger, he will have to wait a little longer to get his man following Afellay's claim that he will likely remain with PSV until the end of the season.
The attacking midfielder, who will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any other club in January, told Dutch publication
Elf Voetbal, "The transfer deadline is closed, so nothing new will happen now. All I can do is focus on PSV and I will continue to do so. And it looks now as if I will stay at Eindhoven until the end of the season."
Afellay, who has also been attracting the attentions of Liverpool, Manchester United, Hamburger SV and Schalke, is a very skilful player who can cause problems to opposition defences, whether through the middle or from the wings.
He made three appearances for the country at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and has 30 caps in total.
If Afellay ends up joining Arsenal, he will join countryman and fellow Netherlands international Robin van Persie in attack.
