Ibrahim Afellay's agent confirms Barcelona deal is in the making
The agent of PSV Eindhoven's Ibrahim Afellay has said that all details apart from personal terms are in place for the striker's move to Spanish champions Barcelona in January.
With 14 league goals and eight assists to his name this season, Afellay has attracted the interest of several of Europe's top clubs.
Barcelona's interest in the striker is said to have increased after the 24-year-old scored a brace in the Netherlands' Euro 2012 qualifier against Sweden in October.
Rob Jansen, Afellay's agent, said that the player is close to completing his transfer to Barcelona, with only the personal terms of his contract yet to be agreed.
"[Completing Afellay's personal terms] is definitely going to take some time," Jansen told the website of his company,
Sport Promotion Consultancy. "There is certainly no final agreement. When the time comes we will notify the media and the fans through our website."
Afellay recently commented on Barcelona's interest at a press conference, saying he would be willing to leave the Netherlands midway through the current season.
"I am honoured by the interest of a big club like Barcelona and of course I am willing to make the switch in January," the player told reporters. "But not everything is finalised, it's an ongoing process. We can't speak of an agreement yet, I wait patiently
on that matter."
Aside from Afellay's personal desire to join Pep Guardiola's team, the dire state of PSV's finances speaks for the deal being completed in January.
Toivonen could also leave PSV
And the Dutch international may not be the only player to leave the cash-strapped club come January.
Swedish playmaker Ola Toivonen, who has scored nine goals in 13 league appearances this season, is also said to be leaving the club with Roy Hodgson's Liverpool as a likely destination.
