Ibrahimovic reveals Guardiola tensions amid transfer speculation
Barcelona striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has given his biggest hint yet that he could be on his way out of the Camp Nou. The Swedish striker astonishingly stated that he hadn’t spoken to Barca coach Pep Guardiola for six months, adding: “I do not know the reason for this, but there are certainly problems.”
Ibra, who joined the Catalan giants just last summer in a deal worth £40m plus Cameroonian hitman Samuel Eto’o, has failed to live up to not only his huge price tag, but also the high standard he produced while at Inter Milan. Interestingly, Inter went on to win a stunning treble without the Swede, who many Serie A fans would claim – with some validity – carried the Nerazzurri for much of the three years he was there. His languid approach coupled with his lack of form saw Guardiola lose faith in his multi-million-pound superstar towards the back end of last season, and now, having already signed Spain’s World Cup hero David Villa this summer, Ibra’s time in Spain may well be ending.
Indeed, AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has spoken out recently about the on-going negotiations but claimed they were “very complex, very difficult and very expensive.” He also spoke of Barcelona’s “will to sell the player to Milan” but that the money side of things was proving difficult. Whatever happens in the next week, it’s a transfer that would make sense for all parties. He would represent an excellent addition to the Milan ranks, as the Rossoneri desperately try to reaffirm their grip as the top side not only in Milan, but in Italy too. He’d also head back to the city where he produced his finest form while leaving behind a club where he never truly settled with a coach who clearly doesn’t have much trust in him.
