I was diagnosed with ibs about 5 months ago.

for the past 3 months i have been getting pains in my lower stomach towards my right hip.

I haven't had treatment for ibs because it seemed to make me worse.

today it hurts around my hip when i breath in, cough, sneeze and laugh.

What could this be?

Im going to the doctors on Monday.

What will the doctor do to me?

  1. Well, DO go to the doctor to make sure it's still the IBS causing the discomfort, but if it IS the IBS,  you might be helped by taking  Metamucil (or other fiber supplement) regularly.  Benevber is very easy to take, but more expensive.

Start off with a small dose, then increase as tolerated.  Be sure to take the full amount of water with your supplement too!

Again, ASK YOUR DOCTOR FIRST, of course..

The fiber creates bulk in the bowels and that equalizes the pressure along the length of the bowel, taking the pressure off any one portion.   Prevents diverticulitis too. Also, it is a hemmoroid treatment as well, for the same reason (equalizing the pressure).

  2. The Md will take a history of your symptoms; what treatment you've had before & the effects they had.  Then he will probably palpate your abdomen (internal organs).

If the pain starts by your bellybutton & moves diagonally down toward your right side it could be appendicitis.  If you get a fever/or pain get much worse go to ER.

By the way, antidepressants work to ease cramps of IBS.

    Google:  mayo clinic>>Appendicitis

    >>IBS
