I've been waiting to take skating lessons so long! And today I called the rink to ask if they have summer lessons but they said they were closed and hey're gonna open in september. There is another skating rink around where i live but it's like 35 or 40 minutes away and my dad doesn't want to drive me there cause he doesn't want to waste gas. what should i do? and does your skating rink close in summer? and if so, how do you practice?

  1. my local skatin ring does the same thing. they are only open during the winter. it sucks because altho im not a skater i do like to skate and i would love to go in the summer but cant because they are closed. im sorry :(

  2. Thats a pain, you have my sympathy. My nearest one is two busrides away but at least it stays open all summer.  You might have to try this other rink if its open cos its about same distance as I have to travel each time.  Can't you use bus to get there? I do.

  3. I had a simmilar problem except my skating rink didn't close, I had to stop for a few months until I could have the time to go. This was when i was younger. I practiced on land doing the movements that I wound do normally on ice so I woundn't forget how to position my self in the jumps and spins. I would were slippery socks on a hard wood floor and start jumping and spinning. It's not the same sooooo...its better to practice on ice. Ask your dad if you can go once a month to the far rink. only once till the rink opens so you won't forget what you have practiced.

    good luck!

  4. For me, the closest rink is 40 miles away. I drive there every week. And I know other people who travel farther than that to skate. I am so glad that they don't close for the summer. Actually, they're open more for public skate in the summer. That's awful that your rink closes in the summer. It would be beneficial to go to the farther one a few times this summer to practice. And if you really love skating and don't want to stop for the summer, explain that to your dad. Maybe offer to help pay for gas or something. Good luck
