Question:

Ice Skating Flip Jump?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I'm having trouble crossing my legs in my flip jump.

It's fine in my loop and everything else.

I don't know what it is.

I have tried everything.

My coach always tells me stuff but it never works.

I practice it off ice but it still doesn't help.

Little advice? Pleez. And thanx=] ♥♥♥

  1. First, don't worry a whole lot about crossing or getting a tight air position in a single jump.  You don't need it like in doubles and triples.

Make sure you are not pre-rotating when you enter your jump.  Keep your arm and shoulder on your take off side in front . . . don't let them start turning as you pick back.  If you allow your upper body to turn,  your hip will turn too and may cause it to open to make it harder for your legs to get into a crossing position.

As you pick back and allow your take off foot to catch up,  pick your knee straight up (not off to the side) when you jump.  The knee up should keep that hip closed - to give you a better lift and to make that single jump look nice - and keep your leg where it needs to be!!

Try that off ice too.  When you pick back, stop yourself instead of jumping . . . check to see if you are already pre-rotating (it's hard to tell on the ice sometimes as you are moving) . . . that's what you want to get rid of first!

    Hope that helps!

  2. You can go to http://wikihow.com

  3. as you stick your toe pick in the ice don't do it to far behind you at first, just a little.

warm up with the loop to get the feeling of your legs then practice your backspin.

try it in slow motion forcing your foot to go where it needs to go.

good luck also just practice it a lot and you'll get it

  4. for a half flip:

go staight forward, do right mohawk. stick right toe in ice. Do half rotation with arms in. land on left foot.

  5. i had trouble w/ that jump to and it sucks so i dont really kno how to fix it srry

the way i fixed it was i switched coaches make sure ur coach is at a high enough teaching level for u

  6. Hi I am working on my double flip but the reason you may not be landing this jump properly because maybe you don't back your freeskate foot to your toe pick before you rotate. I have been to seminars with Ben Ferriera and he told me elevate before rotate.
