  1. yea bend ur knees, make sure ur skates are TIGHT =D have fun!

  2. There's no trick to it really, just keep away from the sides and move your feet in a "v" shape. Don't look down at your feet or at the ice as your head is the heaviest part of your body so you will fall.

  3. i know how tricky it can be starting out from scratch, for the first week or so i needed a lot of convincing to let go :) i think its a good idea to let your friends help you a little so you can build up your confidence. its actually a good thing to fall as it makes you less afraid and shows you are trying.

for now you could stick close to the barrier if the need be, then start letting go for short periods of time. work up to skating by your self a little away from the barrier for 1/4 of he rink, 1/2 the rink, the whole rink :) just be careful as the ice is sometimes pretty shoddy right up near the barrier.

one of the most important things to remember is to bend your knees, but dont stick out your butt :P keep your arms up at shoulder height for balance. also dont look down at your feet, the ice will always be there :) try keep your weight over the middle of your blade.

oh and make sure your skates are tight enough, not so much that they cut off your circulation, but enough so that your foot cant slip around. they should be tightest around your ankle (dont wrap laces around the boot tho!), firm on your instep, and more loose at your toes. the top hooks should be tied firm but allow you to bend your ankles and knees comfortably.

point your toes out to the sides so your feet form a 'V', then push off slowly onto one foot. bring your feet back together and push onto the other foot. they dont have to be very big steps, just try make them even. or if you arent too confident on one foot try 'scooter steps' - just pushing with one foot like you would when riding a scooter. make sure to try it on both feet though...

practice is the only way to get better really, so keep trying and you'll get it :) it takes a while but you'll love it.

Happy Skating, i hope you have fun :)

  4. well the best advice there is, is to practice

  5. Falling is part of learning how to skate. Put your arms out for balance and try just going out of your comfort zone, you won't learn anything if you don't come out of your comfort zone. Using your arms for balance and trying marching forward into a glide on the ice or you can try basic stroking (which is a little more advanced) by using the inside of your blade to stoke forward alternating feet and gliding on one foot while you stroke with the other foot. Here is a video that may help you with forward stroking http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuaJmyZ8Q... and this link may help take you through the steps of learning how to skate forward better http://figureskating.about.com/od/getsta...

Skating takes a lot of practice good luck!
