  1. Ice Skating Secrets by Neil C Rumbol

It's an essential guide on ice skating basics with tips, tricks and practical techniques.

Everything from choosing the right pair of skates, performing the essential skating moves, the right way to fall to prevent injury, and more are covered in expert detail.

  2. "Ice Skating: Steps to Success by Karin Kunzle-Watson"

I used this to complement group classes. The book was good because it goes quite slowly through skills - after all, no one learnt to skate overnight.

  3. On my shelf, the easiest to read is probably Figure Skating: Sharpen Your Skills from Spalding.  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Figure-Skating-S...

    (see the reviews)

It covers the very basic stuff - with short instructions, photos, and some maps of how your ice tracing should be.  It also takes you through spins and single jumps (and it briefly touches "figures" and ice dancing).  I liked it, as it gave some tips on common errors for particular moves and ways to sharpening each skill.

Honestly, I'm not going to say this is the best skating technique book out there . . . but certainly it's laid out for easy reading - less to decipher!!
