I used to take ice skating lessons for about 2 years. Then I had to stop, because I was moving, and It wasn't a good time to skate, so my mom said I had to quit. (For now) I was really upset, but it's been 2 years and I never got back to it. I LOVE Ice skating, and I really want to get back to it. So my mom said I could, and I'm really excited. I just have a few questions about it. I really kinda don't remember how to do anything except, falling down right, getting up right, balance, and skating really fast. Which i'm good at. I'm not good at jumps or anything. How long does it take to learn a jump? And how do you skate on an edge? Thanks so muchhhhh! [ =

  1. If you are fearless of falling then it might take you a few weeks to learn your jumpa, depending on how good your technique is. Progress  varies a lot between skaters, so it's best to get a private coach to help you progess at your best. It'll go by fast though, it'll be a year later and you'll be so much better.

To skate on an edge, hard to explain. It's all about shifting weight and balance. Try practicing going forward on 1 foot, then try that on the hockey circles. When you follow the circles, you'll be on an edge.

  2. learning a jump takes alot of practise and normally about a week. remember that when you are practising to get the jump right, to do it a few times then give it a break and do something else, if not you may get too frustrated and hurt yourself  :)

  3. well really, I can't answer all of this for you. But when you begin skating again, you should get a coach. Your coach will go through all of the basics with you. I had to move when i was in fourth grade, and I had just started skating and gotten out of Basic Skills, so I didn't really do that much, but when i moved i got a coach and she tought me everything I know now that i am at Preliminary level. So just ask your coach all of these questions, he/she will be more than happy to help you.

  4. Why not get involved in a group lesson program?  Let them know that you've had lessons before so they know in which class to place you and maybe tell the instructor you may need a little review.  The jumps will come when you get to that level, but with an instructor around, it really doesn't take long to learn the basics like half jumps.  For edges think of pressing your toes down on the bottom of your skate.....inside edge press your big toe, outside edge press your pinky toe.  Just practice holding them on a circle...inside and outside on both feet.  Don't forget backwards!  A lot will come back to you after you've had a little practice time and anything you don't remember, your teacher can help you with.  :)
