Soon the north pole may be Ice FREE. http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/exclusive-no-ice-at-the-north-pole-855406.html

Every other time in human history that a large, habitable land mass has been found humans have colonized it. What do you all think the odds are that the now (or soon to be) ice FREE north pole will likewise be colonized ? Also what about the oil companies ? Will they jump on this as a chance to start drilling for oil where they once could not due to the ice sheets ? God I hope not, thats just what we need! Oil drilling and its resulting use has caused this much dammage in the form of global warming...

  1. From what I remember, the North Pole is not a land mass, but made entirely of ice.   Antarctica actually has a land mass under the ice.   As for your question about drilling.  I am sure they would given the chance (some company will be desperate and not have a conscience - it's all for profit, right? whatever it takes to make the stock holders rich).   The other companies would have to submit to similar practices to stay competitive.

Let's hope it never comes to that - if the polar ice caps melt we will have BIGGER problems to deal with.

  2. All activities on places like Antarctica & north pole should be controlled ones , it should not be a tourist place, at least have places in the world where humans don't colonize , i will not want to see these places being colonized however opportunities they may have for us but somethings must be left alone

  3. Heh.  Appearantly you're not very familary with your world geography.

Yes, we may have an ice free north pole soon.  However, there's no land there.  None.  The north pole is an ice sheet over water.

It's been known for a long time.

In fact, in the article you supplied us, it states, "making it possible to reach the Pole sailing in a boat through open  water" (paragraph 2).
