Ice maker broken

I have a side by side whirlpool 6GC5THGXKS .the ice maker stopped making ice a week ago but water still dispensed.Last night the fridge tripped the electrical safety switch so I assume there is a fault in there somewhere?I havent looked at anything yet as I am wondering where to start?
