  1. Being able to rollerblade has nothing to do with skating. I can't even stand on a pair of rollerblades. If you want to try out for hockey, go to your local rink and try and get some lessons. Too many people think rollerblading and skating are the same, but they live on different sides of the planet.

  2. It is slightly similar. the main difference is how you stop, but there are many other minor differences. Is it hard? as a skater, I'll have to say no, but it takes some time to get used to.

    Have fun skating! :)

  3. Ive figure skated forever and played hockey. but I cannot, to this day, rollerblade or roller skate. Theres much more friction on concrete or roller rinks than ice and a blade is a lot different than wheels. with a blade their are edges, with wheels, your kind of stuck on flat. hockey skates are tough because there is no heel or toe pick so it is very easy to rock forward or backward on your blade to the point where you fall.

in my experience, figure skates are much easier to learn on than hockey skates because the blades are thicker and you have toe picks and heels to help you balance and stop and prevent falling.

start holding on to the boards, take baby steps. march, pick your feet up one at a time and pretend like your marching. this will help you get a feel for the ice and how you can glide on it. also stopping is different. try a snow plow stop first. bend both knees and push out and down into the ice.  this all takes practice though.

good luck! if you have any more questions let me know!
