  1. First of all, happy birthday! second of all, bend your knees and don't look down. also try to keep your skates upright so that they are not bending in. and if you want more advanced basics you should sign up for at least group classes if not private lessons.

  2. I'm turning 14 in 9 days! :)

  3. happy birthday! lol

what kind of advanced basics do you mean? like spins and jumps?

well, I'm only basic 5 so I don't know much about jumps, but I've been doing a lot of spins, one thing that will help is to have your arms out and pull them in really fast and keep them in for a fast spin, just don't spin too fast or you'll go off balance

  4. remember bend your knees

  5. well first of all falling down is what helps u learn so dont feel bad at all and practice practice practice thats all i have to tell you! o and happy birthday!! =]

  6. Hi!  I just turned 14 a few days ago!  If you don't take lessons ask for them for your birthday.  They will help you!  Don't look down, BEND your knees,The faster you skate the less it will hurt when you fall,  Always keep you arms were they tell you, and don't have a fear of falling!  Those are all must have essential of of figure skating.  There are only a couple things were you keep your knees straight ( you'll learn them later).  I wish you the best of luck skating, I hope I helped you.

Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birhday dear " I'm sorry but I forgot to look at your name", Happy birthday to yoooooooooooooou!

P.S. When yo buy skates don't buy anything "Jackson"!

  7. First off let me say this: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I'm fourteen, and I am currently in Freestyle 5 (ISI). I remember when I first started skating. It was three years ago.

The main focus is BEND YOUR KNEES! You have a lesser chance of falling, and it helps you balance. To move forwards without the wall you can push with your toe picks or do it the way they teach in Public lessons where you push off with the ball of the blade, which is like the middle of your foot. Keep your arms out too, so it will help you balance, and also catch you if you fall.

Another way to go forwards is to do swizzles. Face forward, and put your heels together to make a V shape. Bend your knees, and try to push forward. Your blades should push outward (but still be in a sort of V position). Now try to pull them back in together towards each other. Straighten your legs, and pull them together. Now they should be forming a A sort of shape, but without the line in the middle. You can do many swizzles in a row.

When you feel comfortable enough going forwards how about something a little more challenging? How about going backwards?

Doing the forward swizzles will help with going backwards, because doing backwards swizzles is probably the easiest way. So now you are going back wards. Have your feet in a /\ position, toes together, bend your knees and push out. Your feet should glide along the edge and look somewhat like this : /  \ Now pull your feet in by straightening your legs, and pulling in, heels together. look like this: \/

Now you know how to go forwards and backwards!

Next if you are comfortable you can try some jumps or spins. You might want a skating instructor to watch you though.

    Spins:

    Two foot spin

    One foot spin

    Scratch spin

    Jumps:

    Bunny hop

    Waltz jump

Just look those jumps and spins on the internet.

Hope this helps, and good luck!
