I'm going to Vienna during September. I was wondering if the Ice Train that goes to Salzburg is a generation three train - http://www.railfaneurope.net/ice/ice3.html . Is there a way to findout if it's a generation three, two, or one. Same goes from Salzburg to Munich.

Part two

Right now I can either go from Vienna to Budapest or Vienna to Salzburg to Munich. Please help with any advice

  1. No, the generation three Intercity Train is only operating in Germany, has no license for Austria.

From Vienna to Salzburg and Munich trains of type ICE T are operating; German Bundesbahn Type DB 411-x*x and Austrian Bundesbahn Type ÖBB 4011-x*x.

From Vienna to Budapest would be the opposite direction (eastwards)
