Has anyone ever flown with Iceland Air before how was your experience like? I am thinking about booking a flight from Toronto to Sweden that has a stopover to Iceland (Reykjavik Airport) , I was also wondering the things to expect from their airport, security checks, baggage check, etc. Any help will be appreciated thanks very much!

  1. I flew Icelandair on BWI-CPH a few years back.  All of their flights connect at Keflavik, Iceland which is Iceland's main international airport.  It's a small airport with large duty-free shopping areas.  You don't clear customs and immigration until Sweden.  You'll stay airside in Iceland during the layover.

They fly Boeing 757s, but for relatively short flight hops (YYZ-KEF ~ 5 hours, and KEF-STO ~ 3 hours) it's not so bad on a 757.  They're supposed to be installing new seating and inflight entertainment--see http://www.icelandair.com/home/et/

  2. My family always uses Icelandair when we go overseas.  We have family in Iceland, even though we live in the USA now.

Personally, I like Icelandair a lot.  It's nice to have a stop in Reykjavik, even if only for a short while.  The airport is small, but very nice.  Not much to see outside the airport though, the land all around it is very flat, so you don't see any of Iceland's breathtaking scenery.

Security and baggage checks have always been very efficient when I have been there.

  3. They're a good airline. The people are always very polite and the cabin is always clean. They used to serve better food in coach, but now they only ever offer chicken or lasagna. First class offers fantastic food. In my opinion they have some of the best pilots ever, but they have to be if they're going to land during some of the awful snow storms that sweep the country.

The airport is very modern and minimalistic.  The design of the layout is very straightforward so there isn't any of that aimless wandering around that often happens in older more confusing airports.  The staff and security, in my experience, have always been polite and efficient.  I've never had to wait any longer than 5 minutes in a line, although I was always in the "Residents" line.

  4. Icelandic Air is one of the most reliable airlines out there. In Iceland you will also receive a warm welcome and smiling faces when you arrive the Icelandic people are known for their kindness and have been one of the happiest races on Earth for years now!!! But if you want to save some moneytake Smyril Ferry Lines to Norway and then rent a car to drive into Sweden which has Open Borders with Norway and is a neighboring country.

So I hope my answer helped and I also hope you enjoy your soon to be started ICELANDIC Adventure
