Iceland International 2011: Thomas Dew Hattens and Louise Hansen grab Mixed Doubles title
Denmark’s Thomas Dew Hattens and Louise Hansen have grabbed Mixed Doubles title after crushing Ireland’s Tony Stephenson and Sinnead Chambers in the final contest of the Iceland International 2011, on Sunday, November 13, in Iceland.
Dew Hattens and Hansen displayed phenomenal performance in the final match against the Irish couple and won the battle in straight games by spending just 26 minutes in the court. Stephenson and Chambers failed to live up to the expectations and lost the
match to their aggressive opponents.
The Danish couple opened the game in a defensive manner and gradually accelerated their speed. The Irish couple displayed wonderful game in the opening half of the set but failed to find lead as their opponents was playing with superb control. Until the
interval, the Danish shuttlers were just ahead at 11-10.
After the interval, the score progressed closely as both sides put up strong show of aggressive badminton. They remained neck-to-neck in the whole game by playing fast and positive badminton. However, the Danish duo remained successful in taking the first
game with a tight margin of 23-21 in 16 minutes.
In the second game, the Danish shuttlers found a completely smooth ride as they faced no resistance from their opponents. Their aggressive approach earned them a considerable advantage against the Irish shuttlers, who remained trailing behind throughout
the opening half of the set. Until the interval, Dew Hattens and Hansen were leading the game with the score of 11-6.
After the break, the Danish players remained on the right track by playing at the same high speed. They were moving in the court with an incredible speed and took the bird quite early which gave them so many choices to place their strokes. The Irish duo
failed to stop the aggressive run of the Danish shuttler. They made numerous errors which helped their opponents to maintain a comfortable lead in the whole set.
Dew Hattens and Hansen played top class badminton against the Irish opponents. They remained far ahead of their rivals in the entire second game and won it with in an impressive manner with a 21-13 score by taking in just 10 minutes.
This Mixed Doubles final match ended up in just 26 minutes with a concluding result of 23-21 and 21-13.
