Question:

Ich bin ein berliner,so why not ich bin ein burmese?

did it in the sixtys,the world thumbed their noses at the russians and did a massive air supply of aid to berlin,believe even the useless nations backed it.so why not the same for burma? is it because there is no backing from the u.n. or are we scared of china?

  2. Different set of circumstances, and a different era.

    I agree something has to be done, and so do most people, however our leadership has done and will do very little unless pressure is applied to them.

  3. First of all, your history is confused, although you're well intentioned: the Berlin Airlift was between 1948-1949 and the famous "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech was in 1963.

    In any case, there is a big difference here: Burma has a government, which rejects foreign help and does not issue visas to foreign helpers. Burma is ruled by a military dictatorship, which is banned by most of the world because of its appalling human rights policies even before that. They are rather paranoid and figure that foreign aid = foreign interference for democracy.
