Ichiro Suzuki could be offered two year contract – MLB New York Yankees News
It will not be surprise if veteran outfielder return to the New York Yankees for the next season. Ichiro is an extremely experienced campaigner. He has the ability to play his natural game under pressure. Above all, he knows the art of passing valuable skills
onto the youngster in the team.
After spending half the 2012 season with the Seattle Mariners, Ichiro was moved to New York as part of a mid season trade. He struggled on the mound in Seattle. However, as soon Ichiro was acquired by the Yankees, he exploded.
Showing great determination, pressure handling abilities and mental toughness, the 39 year old helped the Yankees emerge victorious in several important encounters. After Yankees post season ended painfully in the American League Champion Series, Ichiro
expressed his desire to remain a part of the Yankees but the club was more interesting in fixing the pitching problems.
After signing Hiroki Kuroda, Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivers, the Yankees finally turned their attention to the batting lineup. A few days ago, news surfaced that General Manager Brian Cashman and Manager Joe Girardi were very impressed with what they saw
from Ichiro and they want to bring him back to New York.
“Ichiro has made no secret of his desire to come back to New York, having enjoyed his experience with the Yankees after being traded by the Mariners last July 23. The Yankees had hoped to sign him to a one-year deal, just as they have this winter with Andy
Pettitte, Hiroki Kuroda, Mariano Rivera and Kevin Youkilis, but Ichiro received a pair of two-year offers that threw a wrench into those plans,” Mark Feinsand of nydailynews.com said.
“The Phillies offered Ichiro two years and $14 million, while another team — believed to be the Giants, according to a source — offered $15 million over two years”, he added.
A reliable Major League Baseball source confirmed the news earlier this week. According to nydailynews.com, the Yankees and Ichiro are close to signing a deal. A contract worth between $12 million to $13 million contract is expected to be offered that will
keep the outfielder in pinstripes for a couple of years.
