Icing made out of Icing sugar and butter..?

What is the recipe for making iicing out of icing sugar, butter and something else. I cant remember and my parents anniversary is tomorrow and we're suprising them with muffins, jell-o and a candle. Please help thanks.

  1. Just use 4oz of icing sugar and 2oz of butter and it will make a nice butter icing (you can always have 8oz of sugar with 4oz of butter, it depends on how much your making). Its that simple :). You can add vanilla essence or food colouring too.


  2. Basic Butter Frosting

    6 tbl. butter or margarine

    1-1/2 tsp. vanilla

    3 cups powdered sugar

    3-4 tbsp cream or milk

    Cream the butter and vanilla.  Add the powdered sugar gradually

    beating well.  Add in the milk and beat until frosting is a spreading

    consistency.

    And a few variations:

    Lemon Butter Frosting

    Follow Basic recipe but substitute lemon juice for the milk and

    add 1-1/2 tsp. of grated lemon peel.  Can also add a few drops

    of yellow food coloring.

    Orange Butter Frosting

    Follow Basic recipe but substitute 1-1/2 tsp. of grated orange peel

    for the vanilla extract and 2 to 2-1/2 tbl. of orange juice for the milk.

    Can add 4 drops of red coloring and 3 drops of yellow coloring to

    make a deeper orange color.  I would mix the food coloring in with

    the orange juice.

  3. This icing is wonderful!

    Buttercream Icing

    ½ c. shortening

    ½ c. butter

    1 t. vanilla

    4 c. powdered sugar (approx. 1 lb)

    2 T. milk

    Cream butter & shortening with mixer.  Add vanilla.  Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed.  Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often.  When all sugar had been mixed in, icing will appear dry.  Add milk and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.  Keep icing covered with a damp cloth until ready to use.  For best results, keep icing bowl in refrigerator when not in use.  Refrigerated in an airtight container, this icing can be stored 2 weeks.  Rewhip before using.   Yield: 3 cups

    For chocolate icing:

    Add 6 T. unsweetened cocoa & 1 T. additional milk to each 1 ½ c. white icing.  Mix until well blended.
