  1. You can do lots of things, but the simplest  icing recipe I know uses powdered sugar and butter-approx 2 tablespoons of butter for a cup of the sugar,  creamed together, and then thinned with a tablespoon or two of milk until it is the consistency you want.  I add a pinch of salt to cut the chalky taste.    You can also just add hot water to powdered sugar and a teaspoon of flavoring untill you get a runny slurry, and dip your cookies and cupcakes into this to effect a glazed finish.  Almond flavoring on sugar cookies is really nice this way, and of course you could tint it with food coloring if you want.

  2. does this come with a kit for making the cakes?

you can take a cup or more of powdered sugar, icing sugar, decorator sugar, and put a couple of drops of food coloring in it and adding drops of water til the sugar is the correct consistancy for what you have been using. You can also add a teaspoon of butter to this if you wish and work it in so it isn't quite pure sugar.

Powdered, Icing and Decorator are all the same. They have a bit of cornstarch added to keep them from clumping in the package.

  3. icing is colored with food coloring...

I'm not sure what you're asking...

icing is made with sugar, so you're saying sugar, sugar...

if you're asking how to color sugar ??? (plain table sugar..) get a plastic bag with a sealable top. put some sugar in, put in a few drops of food coloring, shake till the sugar is colored.

If thats not what you're asking for...you'll have to rephrase.

  4. Butter, Vanilla extract, and powdered sugar. Use food coloring for color.

  5. buy some icing sugar, add some water and some food colouring.

  6. I don't know how to make colored icing sugar, but for plain icing sugar, you take four parts of sugar to one part cornstarch (or arrowroot starch), put in a blender, blend until mixed, and remove the lid CAREFULLY.  voila! You have icing (a.k.a. confectioners') sugar.

Then you make the rest of the icing recipe.

  7. You need confectioners sugar. Most use cream cheese and mix it with confectioners sugar, and for the color use food dye. You can also use the liquid candy flavoring for a different flavor. Good Luck.
