  1. It's a very hard business to make money in and you often just barely break even.  Raising a few cockatiels is one thing - they breed readily and their offspring are not terribly expensive, it is another when you spend years waiting on a pair of larger birds and the loss of one chick costs you.  If you do it because you truly love it, you won't care if you aren't making a big profit but few people stay in it long term.

  2. All the breeders I know do it because they love it.  Most work outside the home so they can afford to breed birds as a hobby.  When you factor in the costs of keeping the breeders, feeding them, vet care, necropsy when there is unexplained death (to protect the rest of your flock) and the time you spend feeding and *socializing* the babies, you probably won't make minimum wage.  If you plan to ship, you'll also have to factor in the cost of driving to the airport.

If you love birds and your goal is to make people happy with genetically sound, healthy and socialized babies, go for it :-)  But I wouldn't go into bird breeding as a serious source of income.

  3. You would have to breed a lot of birds.

    All i can say is:

Make Sure You Know Your Stuff. Dont over breed, there are many homeless birds as it is.

  4. Not likely.  If you are lucky your birds may pay for themselves, but you are not likely to be able to breed as a living. just as a hobby

  5. No, you can't make money breeding birds.  You have to already have a reliable job in order to care for all those birds in the first place.  No responsible breeder is ever going to make a profit from breeding animals.  You'd be lucky to break even.  The ones who do make a profit are cheap with the care and disregard the fact that their animals suffer because of it.

  6. Bird Breeding is al lot of work especially if you are  going to hand-feed your birds. That is the best way to beable to sell birds.  Let alone feeding cleaning cages etc. Plus you will be tied down. If this is what you wish to do, do your research and have fun.  Good Luck
