I'll be in scotland by mtself for around 10 days in october, and i'd like some ideas from people who have been there/live there as to what to do while I'm there apart from the obvious tourist attractions? Any ideas would be fantastic thanks.

  1. You don’t say where you are staying in Scotland, or what you sort of things you like to do....whether you’re an active type e.g. hillwalking, mountain biking or you’re a culture vulture – museums, theatre, music.

Scotland has beautiful scenery and is a great place for walking, cycling, climbing and all sorts of active sports.  You could walk the West Highland Way – 95 miles from Milngavie, on the outskirts of Glasgow to Fort William.  http://www.west-highland-way.co.uk/

You might like to visit Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, where there are plenty of opportunities to cycle, canoe and jetski.  http://www.lochlomond-trossachs.org   http://www.lochlomondshores.com/

Glasgow is home to many museums and galleries too, all FREE.  www.seeglasgow.com/, and has a year-round calendar of festivals and events.

You could take a seaplane trip from Glasgow City Centre to Oban  - it’s a breathtaking trip.  http://www.lochlomondseaplanes.com/   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s-rLiLpY...

In Oban you could take a wildlife boat trip – go whale-watching, visit seal colonies, or go sea kayaking.    Alternatively, you could fly to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.  On Mull, you could try your hand at fishing, explore the woodlands, or if you’re a wildlife enthusiast,  take a boat trip to see whales, dolphins, seals, or on dry land, eagles and birds of prey.  Tobermory also has one of Scotland’s most picturesque golf courses.

If you’re a golfer, visit St Andrews, home of golf.    Visit the picturesque fishing villages in Fife: Anstruther, Crail, Pittenweem

    Elie, St. Monans.

Edinburgh is of course, home to Edinburgh Castle, but if castles aren’t your bag, there’s plenty of museums and galleries.  Tour the old town for a taste of mediaeval Scotland.

For a great train trip takeThe West Highland Line which links the fishing port of Mallaig on the west coast to Glasgow.  It is one of the most scenic railway lines in Britain.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a great trip!
