Idea to reduce Homeless people?

This is an idea for a non profit organization.. I mean there are shelters but they dont really help..The idea is renting a bus every week or so, and taking homeless people off the streets.. Inside the organization, there would be apartments or rooms where the people would stay for the time being.. There would be Job training for them.. They would get help getting on their feet. For there children, there would be educational training.. For the older people, there would be a nursing home/ senior activities to help them the rest of their life.. It would help the less advantaged and would also help the economy..What do you all think about it?

  1. Ask a Republican he's gonna help pay for it.  He will have teeny weenies at the very idea and condemn you as a socialist or worse.

It is still just as Spencer opined as the leader of that mentality: "If the poor die, it is meet that they should, for they are unfit."  Unfit is a favorite concept among his heirs.

Some elements of your ideas seem very good.

  2. In theory it's a GREAT idea however, who's paying for all of this?  Is the organization is NON-PROFIT?  Would they be relying on donations or private donors.. OR gov't subsidizing?

Where I live there's a hospital that relocated downtown.. It just sits there vacant and has been for year.  I've always thought that it would be a GREAT place to have a shelter- the rooms are large enough for adults/children most if not all are equipped with bathroom(s)... There's even a cafeteria where meals could be served.  However, someone has to pay for these services...

I even thought that the people that "live" in the building could work the cafeteria, and clean the rooms etc.... Though all of these things cost money !  It all boils down to money.

*Many, many homeless people are also mentally ill and need monitoring of meds and other forms of assistance...

    GREAT idea- needs more shaping..

  3. The only way to get homeless of the street is to ignore them and stop enabling them to survive on the street.  Some will starve, others will turn to crime, but a few will pick themselves up and become productive members of society.

  4. I think its a stupid idea!

  5. i have read somewhere that ...''Nothing is more dangerous than an idea when it is the only one you have''...to implement it you have to work on it with some like minded people...good luck.

  6. While this is a great idea it theory, there are many problems with it

    Cost

Where is the money going to come from? This would cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

    Mental health and drug abuse

Many homeless are that way because of mental healt or drug problems. They will not join a program.

    Location.

Where are you going to put this complex. I know I would not want in near my house, because it would reduce my property values. When you add dysfunctional people to an area, and the homeless are dysfunctional, they cause problems!

  7. It already exists. I received help and now volunteer with an organization that does exactly this. It is called the Night Ministry. It works just fine, just not on a very large scale.

And to everyone that made those comments about homeless people: go get your facts straight about who the homeless actually consist of.

  8. It wouldnt work because alot of homeless people refuse to work. They want to be out on the streets. A small few may need help that have mental problems. But Alcholol is their own fault. Dont let them tell you its not their fault. You should make them work small jobs or ELSE they are out in the streets.

  9. That was tried back in the 19th century and it was called: "the poor house."  And then again in the latter part of the 20th century  and it was called: "the projects."  Now it is called low income housing and it still doesn't work. Just ask any social worker.
