My computer has an Intel Duo 2 Quad 6600 Processor ,Gigabyte Radeon Hd 3870 512 mb (overclocked ), Graphics board ,Soundblaster Xfi Gamer Pro Audio board and Corsair 650 watt Power Supply .Current idle/normal operating temps are:

Cores 1&2 45c

Cores 3&4 40c

Cpu 30c

Graphics Board 50c

Hard Drive 37c

My question is are these temperatures good, high or should I be adding more fans as it is very difficult to get operating temperatures from manufacturers

Thanks

  1. Never let your cores on a q6600 get past 64c.  It isn't good on it.  Your temps over all are not to shaby.

Graphics cards vary a lot when it comes to the max stable temp.  My hd4870 can run up to about 115c before it will actually cause damage.

    Your hd temps are fine

  2. idle  temperatures don't mean to much, but at full load, never let it go about 65C.  actually, to be safe, never let it go about 60C for the CPU.

the graphics card can go as high as it wants (not really, don't let it pass 80C).

the harddrive temperature doesn't mean anything.  it doens't matter at all unless it's melting

your Core temps are kind of high for idle though, but your CPU temp is 30c.  those are all the same thing. so what's going on?  are you giving or getting false readings?

if your CPU is infact hotter than that 30c, then try remounting your CPU heatsink and fan and make sure you put some thermal paste on the processor evenly and lightly.

If your CPU is at stock speeds, the Q6600 shouldn't idle any more than 35C. <- that includes cores 1-4
