Hi im looking to buy my first car. Im putting my grandad on as the main driver, and me as an additional driver. I am 17 and he is 73, he has never had any claims and is only paying £80 for insurance for his fiesta. He's getting rid of that and wants something we can both use. It has to have 5 seats, a decent sized boot, a good pulling engine such as a 1.4 or 1.5. We got a thousand ish to spend on buying the car and upto £1500 on insurance, what car would you recommend? Bearing in mind it has to be reliable because I cant afford to breakdown before I get too work etc...

  1. I would use the bus until you can afford a slightly better car, you will find it hard to locate a reliable car in that price range, other than that a 306 Peugeot might fulfil your requirements, but lets be careful out there and good luck.

  2. Smart car, great, safe and economical. Go for it!

  3. Honda Fit (Jazz)

  5. Go for a Ford or a Vauxhall as they are CHEAP to BUY, CHEAP to MAINTAIN, CHEAP to INSURE ! Ford Escort or a Vauxhall Astra & get as much Service History & M.O.T. Certificates & Amounts Spent & When with the Vehicle as possible ! Check the Speedometer Mileage Reading ties up with the Mileage recorded on the M.O.T. Certificates / Service Record Book ! Get your friendly local Car Mechanic to give the Vehicle a checkover for you & ask for his/her honest opinion on the condition of the Vehicle ! Ask to take the Vehicle for a Test Drive & see how the Vehicle runs on Start Up, whilst being Driven & when it is switched off - Does the Engine run on before stopping ? Ask to take the Vehicle for an M.O.T. that day so that you can get the M.O.T. Tester's Unbiased Opinion of the Vehicle BEFORE considering whether to BUY the Vehicle or NOT ! I hope that this HELPS you & your Grandad out ! ALL the BEST ! ADDENDUM : ALWAYS CHECK a Vehicle out in DECENT DAYLIGHT & GOOD WEATHER & NOT in the DARKNESS to PREVENT an EXPENSIVE ERROR ! Take a Magnet to CHECK the BODYWORK for BODY FILLER = ACCIDENT DAMAGE / STRUCTURAL DAMAGE !
