Question:

Ideal weight for partnering....?

okay, i am 5'1 and weigh 107 pounds.....Am i too heavy for pas de deux? Will any of the boys be able to lift me??? If so, (and it's ok that you say so) How can i get my weight down by, say, September? I seriously think i am too fat and am wondering if i should crash-diet.

  1. Crash Diet = You could kill  yourself. Seriously, I'm not lying. I did it when I was 14 and nearly killed myself. You need to eat.

         You think your fat due to low self esteem. Your not fat. And step one to stop thinking your fat, is to quit saying it. Just don't say it. At all.

         Next, eat healthy and exercise every day. Not Mc Donalds just  chicken. If you want chicken grill it with some steamed veggies. And a glass of milk/water/ or juice. Not soda. That stuff makes you pee! (Caffene screws with your bladder and kidneys). Instead of fruit snacks for a snack how about some fruit???

  2. You're at ideal weight for health. Also, weight (within reason) has little to do with pas de deux. It's about body mechanics and technique. I've never danced ballet, but in showdance for ballroom, I'm an old, out-of-shape guy with less than average strength, and I can do lifts with partners who weigh time and a half what you do.

  3. You are fine....Just remember that jumping into your lift is the key in technique....you cannot expect your partner to actually lift you off the floor.  I'd advise practicing as much as possible.  "Back when", I routinely lifted some partners weighing over 160 lbs.  

    REMEMBER...JUMP INTO YOUR LIFT.

  4. Crash dieting is very dangerous. It can lead to eating disorders and who knows what else.

    Your weight is absolutely fine for partnering. We've had dancers in my studio who have gotten lead roles and done partnering. There was this one girl who was 5'9 and way heavier than you or I of course and guys were able to lift her. The guys are trained to be able to lift a lot of weight. They should have no problem lifting you. I'm 5'3 and 105 pounds and no one has seemed to have a problem with me so I'm sure you'll be fine as well. Don't let yourself diet like that though. Please.
