My daughter is 2 on the 26th July which is a saturday.I have hardly a clue how to make it special!

My husband doesn't seem interested at all, I think he thinks its still pointless at her age, he hasn't even booked the day off work! (I've booked the whole week off! lol)

I'd have liked a party but she has only one 'friend' (a 3 year old we see at playgroup alot) and there are no other young kids in my and my husbands family. My sister (who has a 7 and 10yr old) was going to do a party but then realised she had booked a trip away that weekend.

I thought maybe I could take a cake to playgroup Friday to share around...but then it doesn't seem right when her birthday is the Saturday? Then on Friday night I thought I could sneak up when she is asleep and put balloons all over the room and her pressies ready to surprise her when she gets up! But other than that I don't know? Last year we went to BurgerKing but as we do that anyways it doesn't seem 'special'. I thought maybe take her to

  1. I did a Carnival theme for my child this summer. We had carnival music...circus peanuts, cotton candy, Whirly Pops, Icies, Popcorn, Hotdogs, Corndogs...then we had little games like ring toss, duck pond, basketball toss, waterballoon, toss, etc. Everyone took home a copy of the CD I had made of all the music. It was such a fun day and pretty inexpensive to do. Good Luck!

  2. You should definitely book her a day at some fun place for her and her friend. She would love spending the day doing something she loves and spendign tiem with her friend. It doesnt need to be over the top. Then when you get home have some cake and presents. She is only two but you can still make her feel special without all the fanfare.

  3. cake, lotsa room to play, and a camera.  that's it!!

  4. Whoa girl. She's only turning 2!  Only you know your daughter - will she sit through a movie? My 2 1/2 year old daughter now would not.  My first daughter, my husband took her to see Nemo when she turned 2 and she sat through the whole movie and loved it.  So that all depends on your child's behavior.  I think bringing a cake or cupcakes or even cookies to the playgroup is a great idea.  She won't know (or care) it's the day before her birthday!  If you're not doing an actual party because lack of guests, then take her somewhere fun like ChuckECheese or a McDonalds with the play area?  When my daughter turned 2 in February, we took her to McDonalds and had cupcakes at home (in addition to a small party with relatives).

  5. At two, a play day with just one friend is perfect. And I love the balloons idea. Just like at age one, the 2nd birthday is mostly for the parents and the photographs. Most 2 yr olds that I know were not happy when their parents threw huge parties for them and their house was full of people they barely knew.  Cupcakes at playgroup, surprise on her birthday morning and an outing with her friend- all perfect.

  6. how about a softplay area, or farm park or the zoo

  7. Well, remember that she is only two.  My son just turned two and for his birthday, we just had all of his cousins over to our condo and did a pool party.  Well we did that on the Saturday after his birthday.  On his birthday which was a Wednesday, we and a couple of his cousins went to chuck e cheese's (he loves it there).  We just brought in our own cake.

He really doesn't even know what a birthday is yet, but had a lot of fun.

Also, on his birthday, I didn't do this because we didn't have time, but I wanted to take him to the petting zoo.  I also took the day off work, just because my son puts up with a lot, I work from home and as great as it is, my son doesn't get a lot of my attention during the day because I am busy working.

My husband also didn't really care what we did, but on the day of his swim party he had fun.

Just try to think of things your daughter likes and maybe even ask her what she wants to do.  My son loves the park so we did go there and play for a bit.

Have fun and remember kids think the littlest things are fun to them.
