  1. www.RockYourWall.com has a lot of colored magnetic dry erase tiles, cork tiles, and bullein board accessories. You can create a bulletin out of cork and dry erase tiles that match your school colors.

  2. I like the "Fall" Into Good Study Habits - yellow background then put the study habits on big leaves (construction paper) of different fall colors - I usually put a squirrel, a rake (which I make out of construction paper), and a paper bag on mine - I use a big paper bag and roll the top down; then stuff it with tissue paper and put a few colored leaves on top.

Tried it at the high school level, but the kids quickly changed "study" to "stud" hahaha

oh - some of the habits I put on leaves are

    study with a friend

    quiet place

    get organized

    take breaks

    neat work

  3. Try to incorporate the Olympics.... it begins on 8/8/08, which is right before school starts. This could be a theme for your whole classroom -- or the whole year.

there are lots of resources available online and at teacher stores for incorporating this them into your classroom. i used to LOVE Olympic years.... Lots of cool ideas.

  4. What is your overall theme?  You could do self portraits with adjectives written around the edge to describe the student.  Goal Setting is also good.  The "average 5th grader"  where you have the kids take measurements of height, show size, arm length, etc, find the averages for each, then construct the "average" 5th grader with butcher paper and clothes etc.
