I need some ideas for throwing a green/earth friendly baby shower. I need to know some special and unique ideas for entertaining the guests.

We can do the standard baby shower games and then just have the prizes be eco friendly but it would be fun to think of some related games/activities as well. I need ideas please!

  1. This is a great opportunity to show every one how going green can be a great choice for them. Im loving your decision.

INVITES:  out of recycled paper, or better yet e-mailing cuts down on tree waste.

DECORATIONS: organic flowers for a center piece and gently used baby clothes hung on a jute clothes line, strung around the house. Get cute baby clothes from the thrift store and put them on little pink or blue hangers. No paper plates or paper napkins or plastic utensils. Only the real thing

WRAPPING GIFTS: about 4 million tons of waste is attributed to paper wrapping each year, ask guest to wrap gifts in blankets or useable items. Or reuse newspapers (sunday funnies)

GAMES: a great green shower game is with baby food, blindfold them (or hide the label) and have them taste regular ones and guess the flavor and then ask them to taste three organic baby foods. The tastes are so distinctive that your friends might become green converts. Use the string from the wrapped presents to play the "guess how big her tummy is" game . Earths best organic makes cute cookies that look like childrens letter cubes that can be used for the old fashioned baby name game to choose a baby name (then they can be eaten)

FOOD: make all food out of organic ingerdients just to let everyone know how great healthy can be. Organic fruit salad, organic tea for a green tea party, those cookies will go great with tea

GIFTS: at the end of the party give all the attendees or game winners a reusable shopping bag (so they dont use plastic anymore) filled with green gifts. I love organic lotions, chap-stick and makeup that sort of thing something recycled or reusable and natural.

  2. Here is a great website that can help you with a lot of the questions that moms keep asking themselves.

  3. weed.. =-]

  4. I was thinking and here are my ideas for you:

    - for a game, have a clothe diaper the baby doll race and give the mother the diapers to use on the baby

    - get a tree from a local nursery and have the group plant it and hang wishes for the baby on it's branches.

    - toys r us has a organic baby section. make the mom to be a gift bag of organic baby supplies and wrap it all in a blanket instead of wasting wrapping paper. use a hair tie to hold it closed and hide it with a bow.

  5. maybe you could pick up some things out of your recycle box and have people come up with various, crafty ways to reuse them. Then choose the one that is the best.

Or get a prefold diaper (or piece of material) with pins, and a doll and have people put the diaper on the doll. . Not very easy if you have never done it. It is pretty tricky to fold the diaper to fit baby properly.

  6. I've always wanted to see a cloth diaper cake!  Don't buy diapers at Wal-Mart; they're not meant to be used as diapers.  Buy them from www.cottonbabies.com or another reputable diaper retailer.

I recently had guests sign a book.  It was like a guest book, but we all wrote in our words of advice or a funny story about caring for a baby.  Maybe you could invite your guests to write a short story about something really frugal they've done to take care of their kids.  You should be able to get some really funny stories about saving money and resources!

I love the shopping game.  You buy a bunch of baby things like soap, lotion, toys, etc.  Small things.  Of course, make sure they're all petroleum free and/or made from sustainable wood.  Each guest guesses the price of each item.  Make it multiple choice.  The person with the most correct guesses might win a reusable water bottle or a bar of Fair Trade chocolate.

    Have fun!  It sounds awesome!

PS--ladies, I could kick butt at the cloth diaper race!
