  1. I saw this one on GMTV once and I thought it looked good, there is no cooking involved either. The picture on the website is not great but it might give you the idea.

Just noticed that the link above does not give instructions for the whole cake, try this one

  2. It might be easier to just buy a cake.  You can get one that is themed for something that is popular with boys his age, or pick something that he particularly likes and take that idea to the baker, and they can try and come up with something creative.  I think it's great that you want to make one, but sometimes it's too hard to be that creative (at least for me).  Good luck and tell your son HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

  3. Go visit this site cakecentral.com. you have to be member but its free and we would love to help you with your design, that what we do there. But I might suggest a safari theme, or under the sea, big cats, circus/clowns, animal print. Something that is very vibrant and colorful with lots of detail. It will get his mind going and be a hit to. Good Luck

  4. What does he like?

What is his favourite toy/tv programme?

I made my son a tank birthday cake.

If you want the recipie, e mail me.

  5. I doubt you could do much better than a plain jam/cream sponge cake, coat it with chocolate icing and then make a face on the top out of Smarties - make the tongue hang out of the mouth in "an amusing/cartoonish" fashion.

  6. If he watches TV try finding out what his fav program is. No need to tell you how to do that as I 'm sure you'll have seen him react to something even if it's just the music.

Why not try a musical cake - perhaps his fav. singer's face and musical candles.

A collage of all his fav. characters ie, bugs bunny mickey mouse bob the builder scoop muck &dizzy sponge bob you know what he likes.

Why not make a cake into a balloon shape. Easy to do. you just make plenty of cake and cut it into the correct shapes and stick them all together with jam. Held together with marzipan and then decorated  and made into a familiar face like his own use a photo enlarged on a photo copier. Make the hair out of marzipan.

  7. Make a choccie sponge, cover in choccie butter icing and make a pointy nose with some of the icing, rough ice and use cut in half choccie buttons for the hedghog spines  and smarties to make his eyes and nose!!!  Goes down well every time!!!!

    Good luck and happy eating!!!xx

  8. I saw a cake castle once. I was told that if you mix in ground rice you can then cut the cake into shapes. I've no idea how it tastes.

    NOW!

If it were me I would actually buy and not make a cake, and this is what I would do.

I would buy a couple of battenbergs and unroll them

I would get those pink and yellow cakes and take them apart.

I would get thos weight watcher thingummys and take them apart.

I think what kids like is advemture - even adventure when it comes to eating so I'd have a layer of sponge cake, a layer of marzipan, a layer of sponge cake a layer of a swiss roll unrolled and cut, a layer of marzipan, a layer of chocolate cake sliced up and big dob of apricto jam on the top.

cutting cakes and mixing them can be fun and saves cooking

you can also stick ice cream in between two layers of battenberg marzipan - that is the stuff you use for wafers - but it must be pretty frozen.

you can cut those same ice creams and put them between two layers of cake - what about an enormous victoria sponge - theres always an arctic roll you can unwound and serve up slices of ice cream with flaked almond and stuff and stuff and stufff.

  9. make a cake of his favourate colour and just put some sweets ontop

  10. If he is not afraid of bugs, lizards, etc...make a batch of cupcakes (enough for everyone at the party) and frost them with green frosting.  Line them up on a long tray in a lazy "S" pattern.  The first cupcake gets eyes (M&Ms, candy pieces, etc) and antenae.  You have just created a fantasy bug "cake".  Good luck!

  11. How about a football cake or a baseball cake?

They have great ideas online - here is a link to some I just found.

  12. Check out familyfun.com. It is a great website and has great ideas for kids birthdays! The magazine is great too!

  13. to make it easy on your self you can do a catipilar cake which is just all round cakes, frosted different bright colors (would think he would enjoy that) the 1st and last one are black and put eyes on it you can do ho hos for the legs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  easy to do and you can make it as big as you need it or do it with different colored cup cakes if your not expecting that many.
