Question:

Ideas for a Mini Make-a-Wish foundation?

For a service project, I'd like to make a mini Make-a-Wish foundation at a local Children's hospital. The budget would be pretty low for this project. I'll be around 16 when I'm doing the project. I just don't know how to give the children there something that they want without having it cost thousands of dollars. The average wish cost for the real foundation is 6,500 dollars. I don't have any ideas of how to alter their program onto a smaller scale.

Please help!!!!!

  1. I previously worked as a Wish Coordinator for a Childen's Wish Foundation (not Make-A-Wish though).  We worked hard to get everything donated.  Let's say a sample wish was a trip to Hawaii.  First, we would contact local civic orgs in the area where the child lived and asked if they would like to donate money for the child's wish.  We would call Lion's Clubs, Rotary, church groups, Elks Lodges, etc.  Next, we would concentrate on getting the wish itself donated.  Contact airlines for free or reduced airfare, contact hotels for donations of accomodations, contact attractions in the area for donations of tickets to activities (example-swimming with dolphins, a popular thing I did with my Hawaii Wish Kids), and contact restaurants for dinner donations.

When seeking donations, you'll correspond greatly through faxes and e-mails.  Be sure to tell your donors about the child and some of the details of the illness.  Good luck with this.  This will be a big project, and I'm sure you will do wonderfully!!  Keep doing great things!
