Ideas for a back to school party?

Question

My friends wanted to eat some of the food from my country, so we'll be have those 2 kinds....

other than that.. what else should I serve. I planned to bake cookies and brownies, make punch, have chips...

what else should i have for this party from A-Z?

we're just sophomores in HS...

I think they're gonna just come, eat, talk, and go home?

what else should I expect?

i haven't been to many parties like this...

so what are some inexpensive ideas?

How about decorating with alphabet letters made out of cardstock paper, books, cups filled with pens,pencils, crayons, etc... and anything else "school-like". You could use lunchboxes as centerpieces for the tables too! Another idea would be to do a scavenger hunt where you  have a list of different school items that are hidden all around the house or outside. Give each team of players a list and a specific time frame. Another idea would be to do some sort of relay races like have 2 backpacks and each team has to fill up the backpack with all the school supplies, one person going at a time. You could also have small chalkboards and chalk. Divide the group into teams and give different math questions. Whoever writes the correct answer 1st gets a point. The team with the most points wins! As far as food, there is a good website called Familyfun.com that has ideas for back to school. Sounds like you guys will have fun!

Mini pizzas on English muffins would be great. Or use refrigerator biscuits..those are quite reasonable. Bean dip and tortilla chips would be cost effective and good too.

there should be no party for going to school. thats outrageous.  maybe just a party. not one to celebrate school.

ya, mostly in parties, people just eat , talk , chill, that kind of stuff. Do you want to do formal or casual? b/c if you wanted to do casual, u could always do tropical, and give everyone lays and make them ware flower-y shirts. or u could pick a decade (60's and 70's are always fun) or u could have everyone pick a country, dress like it, and bring food from that country. also, u can always just pick a random theme, like monochromatic (everyone is one color) mix-match ect.

for formal, u could have everyone dress up really nicely (sundresses) or u could do a maskerade of some sort.

but ya, make sure u have music, and places for people to sit, and plenty of conversation topics. dont' try to plan things b/c then people will get annoyed and not want to do stuff, and just want to chill bacically. I'm going to be a senior in HS, and that's all we really do at parties.

I think it's a great idea!  One last get together before school starts!   Have the foods you all like, the foods from your country that your friends want, some chips and other snacks and then the food that you and your friends eat.  If that's pizza have that, or burgers and hot dogs, or even a taco bar, just have something that's more than chips.  If that's the food from your country, that's great too!  Just have something else there too that they're more familiar with in case they don't have a taste for it the way you do.  Don't be upset if some of them don't, they just may not be used to it being they haven't been around it the way you have.

You can also get some ice cream, chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry and whatever YOU like and some toppings and have everyone make their own sundaes.  You can get sprinkles, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and marachino cherries.  You can then get the sundae dishes from the dollar store or the waffle cone bowls from the grocery store.

Decorate in the colors of your school.  I wouldn't go crazy with it though.  Get a few balloons and put them in the corners of the party area and some streamers and have them out in the school colors to make it follow the theme of the back to school party.  

I'm sure it's going to be just what you said, they're going to come, eat, talk, and go home, it's going to be a way to catch up on your summer and meet and hang out before school starts and have one last party before the start of the school season and you all become busy with your activities and studies.  

You can do goody bags, but I would stick to fun things like candy and snacks.  You can do some school things, but I'm sure they'll going to get their own supplies if they haven't already by the time of your party.

Keep it simple and have fun with it!  Just have lots of food and snacks, and drinks, things like soda, water, and lemonade, iced tea, etc, and have food, and I'm sure everyone will have a great time! You can also get a tablecloth in your school colors and some napkins in the colors and then that will accent with the balloons and streamers.  

You can do some games, but ask your friends if that's something they would want to do. I would think this is a time you'd want to share your summer stories and just relax and hang out, they may not want to make this like a birthday party, etc.
